The Gold Cup is awarded to the Individual Qualifier who achieves the best Stableford score on Gold Cup Day, which is typically held on the December playing day of each year. Qualification to participate in the Gold Cup is achieved by the following:

• The Single Stableford winner and runner up on each monthly day from the playing year - if not previously qualified.
• The winners and runners-up of the Roy Best and John O'Sullivan Knockout competitions.
• The winner and runner-up of the President's Trophy.
• The winner of the Captain's trophy.
• The winner of the Vice-Captain's trophy

Participants in the Gold Cup may not win the Single Stableford prize for the day but may qualify for the next Gold Cup Day.
